How it works

The Partner Migration Program enables Australian citizens, permanent residents (or eligible New Zealand citizens), to sponsor their partner (spouse, fiancé, de facto or same sex partner) to join them in Australia.

If your application for an interdependent partner or spouse visa is successful, you will be granted a provisional visa for two years. After this period, you will be assessed for permanent residency in Australia.

A Family Visa to Australia provides spouses, partners, children, parents and relatives of Australian citizens and permanent residents the opportunity of migrating to Australia.

Partners and fiancés of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens may apply to enter and/or remain permanently in Australia. Partners and fiancés include:

  • people intending to get married (fiancés)
  • married (de jure) partners
  • de facto partners (including those in a same sex relationship).
